Hoyt Avenue Historical Building

Built In 1925 to replace the original hotel that was built in 1892, the Monte Cristo Hotel building resides on the corner of Hoyt Avenue and Wall Street. Built in 1921 with similar style is the Knights of Columbus Community Center and War Memorial Building located at 1611 Everett Avenue is also said to be haunted. Built also in 1923 is the Dolloff Building on Oakes Avenue. The rest of the downtown area of Hoyt Avenue has disappeared, long since demolished.

Everett High School

There are other historical buildings that still exist as you head north down to the Everett High School and beyond. The Everett High School though has been refurbished so many times and added onto, that is hard to see what it was then and now when comparing the pictures. The original contraction that remains was built in 1910, which was 114 years ago. It is hard to imagine no ghosts being there. In fact, there are old stories of ghosts at the old Everett High School which takes up the block between Colby and Hoyt. There are stories of a student and faculty seeing glowing orbs in the civic center across the street from the main building on Colby Avenue. Were they ghosts, or simply some other phenomena from another dimension? We may never know, maybe it was simply just a reflection or a trick on the eyes.

Other Thoughts

When looking at the old photos taken back when the buildings were knew, there are mostly horse carriage and carts on the streets. Those glimpses of the past with all those young people that are long since gone, just makes me go wow. Just how those buildings are still there and hold the history out there to see, the memories of people long since gone. I feel that is worth keeping them around, just so that those of the past are not forgotten. That the efforts of the founders that made this city have something still erected in their honor, in remembrance of them.
