The Riverside Neighborhood of Everett, Washington
Riverside Neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Everett. Most of the homes were put up between 1892 through 1929. The neighborhood before the mid 1960s was double the size it is now. Originally, it included much of the eastern side of Port Gardner neighborhood. Heading west of N Broadway you have Bayside all the way to the sound. Most of the homes that were built during those years remain today.
East Grand Riverside Neighborhood
The Grand Mansion as some called it was actually originally the McManus Mansion. The mansion was built for the man that founded Langly. Construction was finished in 1893 right in time for he panic of 1893, the worst depression in US history at the time. This caused the owners businesses to fail. He only lived in the house less than 100 days and relocated to Seattle at that time. The Anther family then bought the home and lived there for about 50 years. Almost entirely the larger homes have all been converted to apartments. Riverside is almost completely residential other than what is on Broadway. It is not until you cross over into Port Gardner that it slowly becomes stores and industrial area on the east side.
There are a lot of old mansions on East Grand in Everett, but not as big as McManus, which cost more than 3x as much as the mansions built at that time for the very rich in Everett. The Rucker mansion was far more, but also years later. McManus owned bank and newspaper businesses, both of which folded during the 1893 depression.
